OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington lawmakers have started the last day of their 105-day legislative session, but still have to pass a new two-year budget by midnight in order to avoid going into overtime.

Lawmakers were back at the Capitol Sunday after the second night in the row where they worked overnight, passing tax bills tied to the budget until nearly sunrise.

The proposed $52.4 billion budget relies on more than $800 million in new revenue, including an increase in business and occupation taxes on large banks and technology companies and a change to the state’s real estate excise tax.

The budget looks to put more state money into K-12 and higher education, as well as the state’s behavioral health system.

Republicans have decried the middle-of-the night adoption of tax increases following recent revenue forecasts that showed more money coming into the state.
