Report: Montana exports to China, Canada strong
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The Office of the United States Trade Representatives says Montana exported a record $1.6 billion worth of goods to more than a hundred countries around the world in 2017.
The Missoulian reports that exports included $1.1 billion worth of manufactured goods, more than $1 billion in agricultural products and over $200 million in coal products.
Canada is the largest destination for Montana products, followed by China.
Paul Polzin is the emeritus director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana.
In a recent report about manufacturing and Montana’s exports, Polzin says the growth in Montana manufacturing exports to China increased an average of 133% a year from 2002 to 2017. In 2017 exports to China grew by 17%.
