A$AP Rocky set to miss Wireless Festival after being detained in Sweden for two weeks
US rapper A$AP Rocky is set to miss his headline performance at Wireless Festival after being held in Sweden for two weeks over an alleged fight.
A court has ordered that the hip hop star, who was arrested on suspicion of assault earlier this week , should be kept in “pre-trial detention” while police investigate the apparent brawl in Stockholm.
A$AP Rocky – whose real name is Rakim Mayers – is due to perform on the main stage at Wireless Festival in London this Sunday, with organisers yet to comment on whether his appearance has been cancelled.
Karin Rosander, spokeswoman for the Swedish Prosecution Authority, confirmed to Sky News on Friday that the rapper had been detained for a further two weeks.
A judge agreed to a prosecutors’ request to extend his detention on suspicion of assault, giving them until 19 July to decide whether to charge the 30-year-old, Stockholm district court said.
“There is a risk that if he is released he will abscond or otherwise evade prosecution or conviction,” a court spokeswoman said.
It comes after A$AP Rocky was allegedly involved in a fight last Sunday before appearing at a music festival in Sweden.
Videos published on social media appear to show a person being violently thrown on to the ground – allegedly by the rapper – before a group of people punch and kick the person on the ground.
A$AP Rocky posted two videos about the incident on his Instagram account, saying two men had been following him and his team through Stockholm.
“Hits security in face with headphones then follows us,” he wrote.
“We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for four blocks.”
Defence lawyer Henrik Olsson Lilja insisted the rapper and his team were “attacked and he made use of self defence”.
The lawyer also confirmed A$AP Rocky will be appealing against the decision to detain him.

His charge has been reportedly reduced from aggravated assault to assault.
The court is still holding hearings on the detention of two members of A$AP Rocky’s entourage who were also arrested over the incident. His bodyguard was released on Thursday.
As well as Wireless on Sunday, A$AP Rocky was due to perform at Longitude in Ireland on Friday.
He has already missed out on Open’er Festival in Poland, where he was scheduled to headline on Thursday, with Stormzy stepping in to replace him.
